The Foothills Minor Hockey Association (FMHA) would like to encourage you to become an on-ice official. It is fast paced, exciting and a great way to make some extra money! September referee clinics in the Central Region are now on the Hockey Canada site and are live as of the afternoon of Thursday August 8, 2024. Please note that we are working on inputting more clinics for October & November and will notify you when they are inputted and live.

 

Things to remember:

 

1) Here is a link that takes you to the Hockey Alberta site which gives you the process for signing up to be an official.

There is a link above to the clinic schedule which may not be updated yet. Here is one that will take you directly to the Hockey Canada Clinic Schedule for the province https://page.spordle.com/ha/clinics

 

In the category section, click on "Officials" and all the referee clinics posted for the province will come up. You will need to scroll through them to find Central Region clinics. You can also put in specific dates to narrow the search. There is also a "Qualifications" section. There are many duplicate offerings. You need to go to line 33 to narrow the search for Level 2 clinics and line 34 to narrow the search for level 1 clinics (Official - Level 2 & Official Level 1). Any other lines will not help you narrow the search for Level 1 or 2 clinics.

 

2) Level 1 clinics are for 12 - 14 years old as of the end of 2024. Level 2 is for all officials 15 years old or older as of the end of 2024.

 

Level 1 officials who want to referee in Calgary can attend any Level 1 clinic offered. It does not need to be within your home quadrant. At the end of the clinic your instructors will show you a list of the quadrant assignors and their contact information. It will be the students responsibility to contact the assignor in their quadrant they want to officiate in and let them know they want to be put on that quadrants assigning list.

 

3) If a clinic is sold out, we do not have wait lists. You will need to look for another clinic that fits your age and level or continue to check back in case someone has canceled their spot.

 

4) If you do not fit the age requirement for a clinic, you cannot register or attend that clinic (ie. you are 16 and want to attend a 19+ clinic).

 

5) If you signed up for a clinic but it is now not convenient for you and you want to move to another, please contact Liam MacIsaac (lmacisaac@hockeyalberta.ca) at Hockey Alberta. He is the only person who can move you from one clinic to another. He is also the only person who can process a refund.

 

6) You cannot leave early from a clinic. No exceptions. Stay the whole day or sign up for one that you can commit to the whole day.

 

7) You must attend a clinic every year to be certified.

 

8) If you were certified the previous year you can officiate the following year up to the last clinic available (usually early December).

 

9) Level 1 clinics have an ice session and we expect all attendees to participate. We do realize injuries happen and thus those that cannot take part still need to be in the players bench watching what we are instructing.

 

10) If you need a CRC (Criminal Records Check) it takes approximately one week from the time you are approved for you to be able to register for a clinic.  You will not be able to register until approved.
